Hiring a Social Media Manager

Here are some tips on how to find the right social media manager to help you develop a winning online brand.

The social media manager will be representing your brand when posting and engaging with your audience on your social media profiles, so you want to take the time to consider all your options. They need to have the skills, both expertise with the tools needed, but also have an understanding of your business and a gift on being able to engage with your audience.

Whether you are looking to hire an employee to help you on an ongoing basis, or a professional social media manager to come in and do the work, it is a good idea to write a job description and expectations of the role (e.g. what you want them to achieve). This will help manage expectations for both you and your social media manager to support a winning relationship.

It takes a while to understand a brand style, both visual and tone of voice, and get to know the audience. Quite often business owners aren't even sure what they want, so make sure to have monthly milestone meetings to review the analytics and evaluate performance indicators so you can work together to reach your marketing goals.

HERE ARE SOME SIMPLE TIPS ON WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER

  1. View their work. Check their Instagram, facebook, twitter and make sure they know what they are doing. The last thing you want is someone who isn’t active on their own social media accounts.

  2. Make sure they understand your brand and your vision. They will work with you as much as they can, but if they can’t see what you see, then your social media presence won’t be right.

  3. Don’t be afraid to ask questions! There are no dumb questions.

  4. Have a solid line of communication with your social media manager. Sometimes they might need to reach you quickly or might have a question they need to run by you. If texting or Facebook messenger is the fastest way to reach you, then use that!
